It's really a case of what you are used to and in many cases changing to another set up doesn't make much sense, in that the learning curve will likely inhibit your ability to quickly produce good results. Having used many of the professional offerings and entry level products I can say that in reality you can produce great results with any of them. Firstly though, let me impart some of my own wisdom about DAWS in general, the truth of the matter is that most modern DAWS have very similar functionality and the ability to produce high quality audio, so in a sense you are spoilt for choice. Unfortunately though, Logic is only designed to work on a mac and if you haven't got a couple of thousand dollars spare and you already own a PC then what are you to do? Fortunately there are workarounds to this problem which I will be discussing in detail in several articles. Here are the steps in detail for completing the OSX installation.

Once OSX is running you then install Logic as you would normally on the MAC. And this is where we are now, so don't tell me you got it hard! So if you want to run logic on your Windows PC, downgrade the RAM to 512 MB, downgrade Windows to XP (Vista in XP compatability mode works too, from what I've heard) and then, on some obscure sites, you have to dig for OxyGen's logic 5.5.1. Than the war was over, we got jobs and just before getting kids we where able to buy a used macbook (fascists!) and logic for 180€ (fascists!). Most users think Ardour is a great alternative to Logic Pro.
Ardour's intention is to provide digital audio workstation software suitable for professional use.

The RAM probably! We where young and poor but happy that a last ableton and cubase still worked, although it never was the same. I guess most of us kept OxyGen's 'software update' on logic on their PCs for quite some time, untill the last PC got upgraded to 1 GB RAM, which wasn't supported by the software any more, but I digress) for quite some time, untill it eventually didn't work any more, I don't know why, exactly.
